Preface To Fundraiser Brochure

This document is a copy of the WBNC's fundraising brochure which was part of the official launch in February 2004.

The document gives an insight into the situation and circumstances the community faced at that time to raise sufficient funds to realise its vision.

Following a Fundraising Feasibility study carried out in late 2003, the target for the fundraiser was set at $500,000. The Board of the WBNC then elected to manage the fundraiser itself, as it wanted to ensure that all funds raised went directly to the project. This total presented a formidable challenge for a small community, but it was tackled with typical Walwa enthusiasm and dedication - even in the face of drought and bush fire at the time.

The Fundraising Committee travelled throughout the local area and to regional centres and Melbourne, seeking donations and sponsorship. It conducted a structured 3 year pledging program which constituted the heart of the fundraiser. In addition the Committee held a highly successful garden party (sponsored by AMP Foundation), participated in the annual LATIPSOH regional fundraiser (WAW /Telstra Country Wide) and conducted many other fundraising events.

Some goods were generously donated (thank you to Joe Mimo - CARJO furniture) as well as auctioned -cattle, grapes and other goods.

Three Shires - Towong, Tumbarumba & (then) Holbrook- who were serviced by the WBNC contributed a total of $66,000.

As at the official opening day -Jan 2006 -the Fundraiser had achieved its pledged goal. The local community had pledged some 75% of the total - a mighty effort that typifies the spirit of this community!

Other philanthropic Trusts have contributed a total of some $125,000. Special thank yous to the following: William Buckland Foundation Helen McPherson Smith Trust Australian Legion of Ex Servicemen Collier Charitable Foundation Dame Elizabeth Murdoch RACV Foundation AMP Foundation Wooden Foundation

As well as our more local agencies & businesses-WAW, Telstra Countrywide, Border Morning Mail and Commercial Club- have been prominent in their support.

Most of all the fundraiser is a tribute to all those in the community who supported the effort and showed that they were willing to back their determination to retain a viable health service for Walwa.
